We received our new sofa set today!!! It is cherry pop (not sure the exact shade of red) but it looks similar to cherry kool aid...guess that is good for when the kids spill some on it. It is ultra suede (so soft) and they are pretty comfy...not Natuzzi heavenly soft but hey, the set was half the price of one Natuzzi chair. We've been waiting 2.5 months for them to be manufactured so I'm hoping they will grow on me. The reason I am not blown away with them is because we found a sofa set (just yesterday) that is ultra soft micro suede and it hugs you when you sit down...instead of being bounced off like a penny. That's how I test for the perfect sofa - do the plop test - if your teeth rattle the sofa is just too hard, if you sink in and can't get back up - that is the perfect sofa! This one is sorta in the middle I think.
We also received our new coffee table which I found and fell in love with yesterday. I guess when you just know - it's love at first sight. The driver delivered it right before the sofas arrived. I LOVE it! It is a gorgeous piece of furniture.
Any ideas on how to decorate this room? I would like to get a Tree of Life tapestry for the focal point...not sure about the rest.

Think of all the red couch photos you can take at home! The table is gorgeous. Re: artwork - any of your kids artistic? Maybe you can frame a fingerpainting or two . . . or just bring back some cool artwork from China. But I shouldn't be the one to suggest decorating tips - I don't have the talent for it! - Tara from w. KY, twlp group 120 (lid 10/17)
Kim,
Love, love, love the red couch set. I wish I was brave enough to use such a great color. Thanks for signing the guestbook on our site.

Dear Kim,
Congratulations on the colour of the sofas - so warm against the cold white of the walls & floor - they invite "Come in, sit down, get warm, have fun!".
I too, invariably have 2nd thoughts when the pieces I've purchased are brought home! Your taste is obviously traditional, conservative with flair. Don't reget your purchases - they're substantial pieces that will form the backdrop to many of your family's stages!
To pull the look of the room together now, use your obvious design skills rather than any more impulse buys.
"Textures" are very hot for interior details where I am right now. How about a few long-haired white faux-fur cushions & flokati-style rug under the coffee table - just perfect for bare toes to snuggle into! You could also bring a bit more fun into the room by choosing contempory lampshades - simple shapes constructed of woven or pleated or cut and folded light white plastic. (Have you seen the sort of thing? Italian design, but most homewares stores have versions.)
As for a picture on the wall (I assume you're thinking of something for above the 3-seater sofa) you will be looking for something with a "landscape" not "portrait" orientation (wider than high). I'd suggest something that takes you out beyond the wall when you're viewing it. You might consider a lovely large Chinese silk embroidery/ painting with very restrained, simple shapes - perhaps a sweep of blossoming branch - in a very limited palette of watery tones (including a touch of "cherry pop" pink!)
Love the bright red! Our couch is green with swirls, but my ultra giant chair is bright red. I love it!!
I also like the idea of the tree of life tapestry. I have a fascination for tree of life stuff. In fact I modified the Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass design and painted it 8' high and 4'wide on my family room wall!
I love the sofas Kim! I had a friend next to us in pilot training who had red sofas. Everything else was very rich in decor, think dark browns, lots of wood and wrought iron. However, I do love the tree of life idea. Tapestries definately warm up a room. I love the tables. That is some gorgeous inlay. Grab a decorating magazine if you need some inspiration. I am so not good at that stuff. I get all my ideas from others.
